Leaf spots or foliage that turns brown on the edges or tips of the foliage is a sign that your plant needs attention. It's best to solve the problem before the plant is past recovery.
There are several things that can cause leaf spots. Typically, that can be from water forming on the foliage (improper watering) or it can be a fungus. With watering, we often see this happen in the landscape. Water on the foliage acts as a magnifying glass and can burn small holes in the leaves. Although it really doesn’t harm the plant, it is unsightly and most noticeable on indoor plants.
Fungus is far more serious on both indoor and landscape plants. This is the most common type of problem we encounter and depending on the fungus as well as other factors (such as type of plant, time of year, moisture, air circulation, type of fungus) etc. will have a bearing on how to treat the problem. To determine the problem correctly, we recommend taking sample of the problem to a nursery/garden center who has a good understanding of plant problems here in the Treasure Valley. We recommend The Home & Garden Store here in Boise as they have over 47 years of experience and is an Idaho Certified Nurseryman.

"Fungus is far more serious on both indoor and landscape plants"
Improper watering plants can certainly cause fungus problems. This is especially a concern when folks water in the late evening to night time watering. Wet or damp foliage is a breeding ground for many forms of fungus, some that can kill your precious plants.
